Power Generation from Renewables will be key solution for the three related problems – Energy security, Climate change and affordability. Among the renewables, wind energy will make a major contribution to achieving a net-zero emissions target.

India’s wind energy sector is led by the indigenous wind power industry and has shown consistent progress. The expansion of the wind industry has resulted in a strong ecosystem, project operation capabilities and manufacturing base of about 15000MW per annum. The country currently has the fourth-highest wind installed capacity (45GW) in the world.

Strong growth in wind power capacity will require large-scale manufacturing of wind towers, where standardization and welding automation is key. The challenge is in circumferential and longitudinal welding of large diameter section towers, with a high level of mechanical properties and minimal weld defects. These joints are mostly welded with Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process for higher productivity.

Bohler Welding has the following welding consumables optimized for Onshore wind tower fabrication: -

All these products are available with CE certification and current test reports for each batch produced. To enhance productivity, the SAW wires are available in 25 kg coils, 350 kg and 500 kg standard drums. The drum packs will reduce the change over time on welding high-thickness jobs in tandem/Multi wire welding.
