Setu Bharatam project was Inaugurated with a budget of Rs 102 billion. The project aims to reconstruct 1500 British-era bridges and also to ensure no railway crossing along the National Highways. A total of 208 railway crossing will be replaced by rail over bridges by 2019. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has established an Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS) in order to carry out a proper inspection of all the railway crossings and bridges. The project will help to reduce traffic at the railway crossing and will also reduce the number of deaths caused by railway accidents.
