Obituary: Parimal Biswas (16.04.1950 – 30.04.2021)

With deep regret and profound sadness,we would like to inform our readers on the sudden and untimely demise of Parimal Biswas on 30thApril 2021, at the age of 71 years.  Late Parimal Biswas was the President vis-à-vis Chairman, International Committee of The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) from 21st of September 2019 till date. He served as Hony. Secretary General of the Institute since 2003 till 2019 and has been actively involved with industry, government, education and research activities for over 40 years.
He has made significant contribution in attaining substantial growth of the institute through expansion of activities in several verticals, particularly in the field of Skill Development in Welding. He also took initiative in establishing ANB-India in 2007 and ANBCC-India in 2012. Mr. Biswas also promoted the initiative in developing relationship with the SAARC countries around India. He has also supported the representations of IIW-India Officials at numerous Annual Assemblies and International Congresses of the International Institute of Welding (IIW), outside India. He has been the main driver in implementing key initiatives with International Institute of Welding.
He has been largely successful in establishing professionalism in the functioning of the institute and was truly the livewire of IIW-India. He is the recipient of various awards like ‘Best Association Leadership (Industry) Award’on 2015 & ‘Hall of Fame Award’ on 2019 by the India Association Congress, ‘IIW-India Golden Jubilee Welding Ratna Award’ in the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebration during 2016, and the recipient of ‘Regional Activities Award’ of the International Institute of Welding during 2017 at China.
Apart from his responsibility as the President of IIW-India, Late Parimal Biswas also served as a member of the Working Group-Regional Activities, IIW. He was also a Director of Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council, and associated with various other associations.
Till hospitalization on 17thApril 2021, he served the Institute both sincerely and diligently. During his days in the Ventilation, he lost his wife, who got expired on 20th of April 2021. He left behind his son, daughter in-law and a grand daughter.
Our sincerest condolences to his family members in their hour of grief and we pray for them for their strength and courage to tide over this irreplaceable loss. His untimely demise is a great loss to the Institute as a whole and he will long be remembered by the entire IIW-India family. May his soul rest in peace!
