RDEL launches two naval patrol vessels

Reliance Defence and Engineering (RDEL) announced the launch of its first two Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs) – Shachi and Shrutiat their shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat. The two NOPVs are among five ships being constructed by RDEL under the P-21 project of the Indian Navy. RDELis the first private shipyard in India to obtain defence production licence and sign a contract for defence ships in 2011. According to the company reports, the vessels would be fitted with 20,000 KW diesel engine-driven propulsion systems and can deliver speeds up to 25 knots.
